I got in a cycle where I was just creating out of my past, which isn’t a bad thing. But there was nothing new happening, and I wasn’t experiencing life to have stuff to talk about. We all love Frank Ocean, but he be takin like 9 years to drop an album. There’s a lot of frustration that comes with that, but each album is packed with so much life that happens to him while he’s writing it, which is why it’s so so good.
And I think there is something important to just being because that inspires your creativity. Sitting in parks. Looking at birds. Seeing different cultures. Listening to different music. Trying different foods. Things that you wouldn’t think correlate — all of that stuff sparks creativity inside of you. I feel like it sounds cliche, but I do think you need SOMETHING to inspire you when you create. And I think literally just living can be that inspiration.
Personal experience is one of the cool things we have against AI. Knowing what it’s like to feel. To feel pain. To feel excitement. AI can only talk about it, but it doesn’t really know what it’s like to go through a heart break. A lot of the great stories that are passed down, the ones that we love so much, the music that we love so much, comes from actual experiences. We kinda get caught up in the idea that we just gotta “pump out content,” but in reality some of the best ideas come from a random trip that you to to Puerto Rico.
