Sport is never just about the game.
As World Intellectual Property Organization reminds us:
“Sports intersect with fashion, entertainment, media, health, gaming, and consumer goods. IP — patents, designs, trademarks, and copyrights — fuels innovation, sparks creativity, and drives economic growth.”
In Barbados, just look at road tennis.
Born in the 1930s, road tennis is a powerful example of ingenuity and cultural identity. When lawn tennis was out of reach, everyday Barbadians created their own version — courts drawn with chalk or tar, tennis balls stripped of their felt, and rackets carved from plywood.
What started as necessity became legacy.
Today, road tennis stands as an indigenous sport with a growing professional structure, formalized rules, and a recognized place on the national sporting calendar. But alongside its rise comes an important conversation: ownership.
Because protecting the IP of road tennis isn’t just about rights — it’s about preserving heritage, ensuring economic value remains local, and creating pathways for global recognition rooted in authenticity.
This isn’t just sport.
This is culture. This is innovation. This is Barbados.

We are excited to announced that we are the proud Executive Producers of "Igboya", an animation by Nigerian animator, Augustine Osas of Guereza Animation.
"I was thinking a lot about how people were adjusting to rising prices, fuel issues, and just the general pressure of everyday life in a city like Lagos," says Augustine on how he came up with the idea for the short.
The film tells the story of a scavenger as he braves the streets of Lagos collecting trash to take back to the recycling factory where he will be poorly paid. As we follow the scavenger's day, we see the stark difference between the poor, middle class and wealthy neighbourhoods of Lagos.
"Igboya" which means Courage is a Nigerian, French & Barbadian production and has been screened in 5 film festivals including:
RenderCon (Nigeria)
Animafest(Zaagreb)
Umgungundlovu Film Festival(South Africa)
Ekotopfilm festival(Prague)
Lift-off global network(UK & LA).
"Igboya" strengthens ties between Barbados and Nigeria. Thank you to Maame Studios for making this partnership happen. We definitely look forward to doing more work with Guereza Animation in the future.
Two years ago, an unexpected call turned into one of the most memorable productions of our journey. Within 48 hours we were on a plane headed to scout in St. Lucia.
It wasn’t our first time on the island — but it felt different.
What we built there went beyond production. The connections. The trust. The collaboration. The kind of team chemistry that elevates the work to something greater than the brief. What we achieved in St. Lucia remains unlike anything else.
Since then, there have been a few opportunities to return — to recreate that magic and to explore even more of this extraordinary island — but they haven’t quite materialised. Not yet.
So as the curtain closes on the 47th Anniversary of St. Lucia’s Independence, we’re making a promise: WE WILL BE BACK.
Because St. Lucia has so much more to offer — and the world deserves to see it.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE ST. LUCIA 🇱🇨

Happy Greens Day!
Grenada — today is all about you.
Your vibe and resilience are deep-rooted in the very belly of the island, flowing across the mountains, forests and valleys, right down to the ocean — reaching your sisters, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
That spirit lives in the people, and every time Grenada is captured on screen, it shows up exactly as it is: true, authentic and unapologetically bold.
Here’s to 52 years of Independence and a culture that continues to inspire.
It’s not always commercials, magazines, or billboards — sometimes our work pops up in the most unexpected places… like another creative’s moodboard!
Imagine our surprise (and delight) when we were sent a moodboard for inspiration only to see some very familiar images from our Zimmerman shoot a few years ago.
Let’s just say our response was: "Piece of cake!"
This is a public notice for residents, business owners, and motorists in the Speightstown area.
Please be advised that scheduled filming activities will take place on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, as part of a professionally managed photo and video production by 13 Degrees North Productions Incorporated.
To facilitate filming safely, there will be temporary road closures along Queen Street, between Church Street and Major Walk, during designated periods throughout the day.
This area will also be a no-parking zone, with parking permitted only for authorised production and delivery vehicles.
Traffic management personnel and officers from the Barbados Police Service will be on site, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Pedestrian access to nearby businesses will be accommodated where possible.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and ensure filming is conducted efficiently and respectfully within the community.
We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

November holds special meaning in Barbados.
It’s the month we celebrate Independence, reflect on our journey as a Republic, and showcase the incredible depth of local talent through the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA).
When the world paused in 2020, the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) chose to honour the spirit of the Festival in a new way — by commissioning documentaries that celebrated the icons behind each artform.
We were honoured to write and produce Ivan Payne: Master of Colour, a film that tells the story of a self-taught painter who broke barriers and reshaped the Barbadian art scene in the 1960s. Learning about Ivan’s journey and the lives he touched reminded us exactly why 13 Degrees North Productions was created — to tell powerful, authentic Caribbean stories that inspire and connect audiences everywhere.
Watch Ivan Payne: Master of Colour now on our YouTube channel.
In the photo is Angelo Lascelles who played the part of Ivan in the documentary.
