That’s going to leave a mark! Congratulations to Staff Sgt. Jacob Frey, a future boom operator, on earning his wings upon completion of the Aircrew Fundamentals course at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. His wings were tacked on by his grandfather, Ralph Branson, who graduated from USAF basic military training at Lackland in 1961 and served 4 years in the active-duty Air Force. Frey’s Air Force heritage runs deep as his father was also an enlisted aircrew member as a dropsonde operator on hurricane hunters, and his mother retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Ohio National Guard. #kc135 #boomoperator #familylegacy #militaryfamily

Airmen with the 121st break down their experience navigating an intensive cold-weather training at Camp James A. Garfield. ❄️ These Airmen faced real-world survival challenges during the exercise like constructing overnight shelters, rucking through freezing temperatures, and conducting a simulated night time rescue mission. By confronting these harsh conditions head-on, these Defenders developed the tactical resiliency and teamwork necessary to operate in any environment. 🎥 by Airman Samir Harris #usaf #usairforce #airnationalguard #explore @us.nationalguard @usairforce

Giving the next generation a glimpse into service 🌟 121st Airmen brought their kids to work to share the mission they support daily. The children received an overview of the boom operator’s responsibilities, toured a KC-135 Stratotanker, visited the base fire station, and learned about the medical detachment’s operations 📸 by Airman Samir Harris and Airman Phyel Richardson #usaf #usairforce #airnationalguard #explore @us.nationalguard @usairforce

Trust the process… even when it burns 🔥 Members of the 121st SFS recently partnered with defenders from the 179th Cyberspace Wing for a joint domestic operations training exercise to prepare for real-world domestic response situations. The Airmen underwent rigorous training involving taser, OC spray, PepperBall, and crowd-control scenarios. 📸 by Airman 1st Class Taylor Warehime #usaf #usairforce #airnationalguard #domesticoperations @us.nationalguard @usairforce

Today, we solemnly honor and remember Master Sgt. Tyler “Pepe” Simmons, a distinguished member of the 121st Air Refueling Wing and 166th Air Refueling Squadron, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Simmons served with unwavering dedication and selflessness, leaving a lasting impact on his unit, our mission, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His profound commitment to service reflected the very best of what it means to wear the uniform. Through his time with the 121st Air Refueling Wing, Simmons began his guard career as a defender in our own 121st Security Forces Squadron, where his infectious positive attitude made an immediate and lasting impact on everyone around him. He was famous for never having a bad day and for eagerly volunteering for any tough assignment, especially if it involved talking to people. His natural leadership made him one of the youngest flight sergeants in the 121st SFS, and he was so valued that when he decided to become a boom operator, security forces leadership tried everything to keep him. Ultimately, his love for aviation won out. In the air, call sign “Pepe” was a delight to fly with and a consummate professional crew member. His ultimate dream was to become an officer and a pilot, and he would no doubt have excelled at both. Beyond his duty, Tyler was an avid roller-skater, a die-hard Bengals and TCU fan, and had a famous love for Spiderman and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. More than anything, he was a loving son to his mom, Cheryl, and his father, Charles. We honor the legacy of Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons by remembering both his service and the incredible person he was to our team, his family, and the community. His memory will forever remain a part of the 121st Air Refueling Wing family. We ask that you keep his loved ones and fellow service members in your thoughts as we mourn his loss.
