RONIN Warrior Week in Okinawa concluded today with a powerful reminder that resilience is built through connection, reflection, and purpose.
The final day featured a message from U.S. Army Garrison Japan Chaplain Lt. Col. Saxton, who spoke on spiritual fitness and the importance of finding meaning and purpose through life’s challenges. Soldiers also participated in a Spiritual Readiness Panel featuring leaders from 10th Support Group, the Chaplain Corps, and retired Cmd. Sgt. Maj. Lamont Christian, who shared tools and personal insights on overcoming adversity, building resilience, and becoming stronger leaders and teammates.
The week concluded with an awards presentation recognizing the many individuals and organizations who helped make RONIN Warrior Week possible.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to a week dedicated to strengthening the mind, body, and spirit of our Soldiers.
Soldiers from across the 10th Support Group came together this morning for a pie-in-the-face fundraiser that proved one thing: when it comes to building esprit de corps, rank takes a back seat to teamwork, laughter, and shared purpose.
The event brought leaders and Soldiers together to break down barriers, strengthen connections, and raise funds in support of the upcoming Army Ball in Okinawa on June 5. Proceeds from the event will help support the celebration and everything that makes it memorable for our Soldiers and families, including food, entertainment, and unit fellowship.
Events like these remind us that morale, camaraderie, and resilience are built one moment at a time.

RONIN and Samurai Week gives Soldiers and families across the 10th Support Group dedicated time to focus on resiliency, readiness, and connection through events centered on holistic health, teamwork, and overcoming life’s challenges together. Inspired by the spirit of the ronin and samurai, and following the Army’s best resiliency practices, the week reinforces that strength comes not only from self-reliance, but also from supporting one another as a team.
CW3 Deja Dior, Accountability Officer at 10th Support Group Ammo Depot, reflected on why RONIN week is important to her and her unit.
“Our section stays extremely busy supporting the mission, so having dedicated time to focus on mental, physical, and emotional readiness is valuable,” said CW3 Deja Dior, accountability officer for the 10th Support Group Ammo Depot. “It also gives Soldiers a chance to hear different perspectives from across the formation and learn tools they can apply both personally and professionally.”
Ronin Challenge Day is taking shape.
Soldiers ran through each event, tested the flow, and helped sharpen the details before the real competition begins. From teamwork and communication to a little controlled chaos, the rehearsal gave teams a chance to understand the standards, build momentum, and get ready to compete.

The Black Knights Dragon Boat Team powered their way through the 52nd Naha Hari Dragon Boat Festival, competing against more than 35 teams from across Okinawa in one of the island’s biggest annual events.
Led by retired Army Special Forces Bernie Fernandez, the team brought together Soldiers and civilians from across the joint force and local community, including members of the 10th Support Group, 78th Signal Battalion, 1-1 Air Defense Artillery, Department of the Army Civilians, and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
The Black Knights opened strong in their first heat, finishing with a time of 4:24.99 and securing 2nd place overall heading into the finals. But the team saved their best for last.
In an intense championship race decided by only 70 milliseconds, the Black Knights crossed the finish line with a winning time of 4:20.30 to claim the overall title.
More importantly? The Army reclaimed the coveted Coaches Paddle from the Navy, who had held the title for the past three consecutive years.
