matt shananan - sunrise / street knowledge (la fays 003, 2005) this is a record i truly know nothing about. scouring the internet for answers has revealed that “matt shanahan” was/is a dj operating in London for 30+ years. tech house used to be good i’m telling you. what a vibe we have found ourselves caught in here. this has quickly become a staple record for me in the house crate. it took me a second to really latch on though, i almost sold it at one point 😶‍🌫️ i found this record as one included in a fb marketplace lot. gotta love the adventure 💿 #electronic #house

theo parrish - overyohead (ss006, 1999) what more can be said about the man that hasn’t been said already. i certainly have nothing new to add in his conversation. listening back to releases from all these detroit guys, like theo, alton miller, marcellus pittman, kdj etc, has reminded me how detroit really is the blueprint for dance music, not just techno. there is so much risk-taking in these tracks, from crunchy drum processing to sampling that creates much more complex moods that the typical deep house melody. i feel that there is a weird tension in detroit house music that is difficult to describe. this release exemplifies that for me. and yet, this sound has proven timeless. like our DJ Bone articulates, music produced in response to artist circumstances; detroit house is impossible to replicate by its nature. #realhousemusic #

some late night tech house movers & thinkers 🧠 i am ashamed to admit i was a snob towards tech house until a lot of recent listening. the genre sucks now but real house heads understand that it used to be great. i think this may be my most oldhead opinion in a logical sense. and there has been a good amount of tech house sitting in my collection but i did not have the eyes to see it. shoutout the bay man and i just learned today that Doubledown Recordings (published the second record) is from Sacramento. shoutout sac and norcal in general #realhousemusic #electronic #meetmeupinsactown

sylk 130 ft. alma horton - happiness (OVM126, 2000) a nostalgic release coming from sylk 130 aka king britt, published on his Ovum label. i am not sure when the cutoff for nostalgia is, but i picked this up with terrible sleeve condition a few years ago from the $2 record spot in san diego iykyk all the tracks on this release are fine and well, but the real pressure comes in the inner tracks, King Britt dub and Critical Point remix. these aren’t available on streaming so you will have to Soulseek them. the former may have the meanest bassline in my stacks, i love the way it creeps in. the latter has a very nice kick, a perfect tension building piece. shoutout #realhousemusic

another blend from yesterday’s session. these long blends are deceptively difficult to pull off smoothly. been loving the track to the left, Bougie Soliterre - Got the Bug (Sfere’s Horn Mix). the simple inclusion of horn melodies makes the original mix feel incomplete. record is SF Sessions vol. 1, an all timer house mix. i’ll put this mix up today or tomorrow. very raw. #realhousemusic

took a break from normal monetary consumption as part of today’s economic walkout. many who benefit from electronic music, whether purely emotional or financially, often avoid acknowledging & understanding its marginalized roots. it is not really up to us to decide whether we want to learn and internalize this; to respect and love electronic music fully is to be a leftist.
