More people need to know that they really don’t have to get locked into a 9-5 forever.
When I told my dad that I was ditching my 9-5 and wanted to travel he said ‘why don’t you try and find a job where you can travel & make money?’ I said they don’t exist. Well…. News flash…
They do & it’s working on a superyacht.
I have always been sporty and wanted to work outside so I ditched my corporate job at 26 and worked as a deckhand / Bosun for 7 years.
What an adventure it was!
I made friends for life, met my husband, travelled to almost every corner of the earth, learnt new hobbies, saved up to pay for our dream wedding and house over looking the ocean.
It truly changed my life & I want it to change yours.
I’m not here to sell the dream though. Yes it’s incredible but it’s not for everyone. It’s hard work, long days, you have to want it and you will have to make sacrifices. But for me, they were always worth making.

I remember thinking…. There HAS to be more to life than this. I ticked all the boxes:
✔️Went to uni
✔️Moved to London
✔️Got a good job
✔️Worked a 9–5.
But all I was doing was…
Waiting for weekends.
✈️Travelling once or twice a year.
💸Struggling to save money.
And I thought there’s no way this is my forever.
F*ck that.
I wanted adventure.
I wanted to wake up somewhere different
I wanted to be and work outside
I wanted every day to be different
I wanted to be able to get ahead and feel like I was building a life instead of just paying bills and suffering from Sunday blues.
That’s what led me into yachting.
But what most people don’t see is that working on deck is far from a highlight reel.
It’s early mornings, late nights, 20k step count days sometimes, learning fast, grafting BUT it’s worth it when you’re earning while seeing parts of the world most people only dream about.
For me, it became one of the fastest ways to earn, save, and create financial freedom in my late 20s / early 30’s.
That’s exactly why I built OnDeck. To help others do the same. I help aspiring deck crew break into the industry the right way.

This year feels extra special for me as it’s the first Christmas in 8 years I’ve spent at home, not working on a boat, with my husband, B and of course our dog Max! A still, simple kind of Christmas… just the 3 of us and I’m soaking up every second.
Whatever 2026 has up its sleeve, I hope it brings more adventure, more joy and maybe even that first step on deck… you never know!
