Wednesday 29th April 7PM - Live in Hull as part of his quick fire northern tour, and last stop before his London headline - The Brain Jar and 020-DESK-ZERO present Stephen Belowsky, performing poetry live to celebrate the launch of his first collected volume ‘Honk’ published by 24-hour phone line and publishing imprint 020-DESK-ZERO. Described by Sir Bob Geldof as ‘a self medicating lexicon of understanding’ and ‘a force of nature’ by UK Music powerhouse Alan McGee (Creation Records), Belowsky appears in Hull for the first time, supported by local poets Matt Nicolson and Joe Spivey. @mattnicholsonpoet @joe__spivey Manchester-born poet Stephen Belowsky honed his craft writing poetry in New York’s Lower East Side in the 1980s. He later became immersed in the anti-folk scene at the Sidewalk Café and the Bowery Poetry Club, where his work developed a steady following. Writing on San Francisco, LA and the East Coast, he gained equal inspiration from Hollywood, whilst performing at The Standard hotel on Sunset Boulevard. His poems are marked by a journalistic urgency, appearing in various magazines as well as recordings on Alan McGee’s Creation23 label. The event is upstairs and free to all to attend, doors 7pm and readings from 7.30 thereafter. There will be copies of Honk for sale, and a signing held afterwards.
