A park between my home and school, 𝘒𝘯𝘺𝘷𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘦 became 𝘒𝘺𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘵 𝘈𝘳𝘬𝘱 through the process of re-retranslation.
These puzzle pieces are laser-engraved with collages of photographs from my daily walks. Over two years, I soaked in every kind of weather, day to night, through all four seasons in this place. When I checked the moments that inspired me, they remained in three thousand pictures, and I began to weave them with a selected hundred shots.
I add hand drawings over digital collages, then incorporate a captured gallery and Google Maps interface of a phone — the very way we consume memories and encounter place — as an element. Found eyeball-shaped wood is cut into interlocking puzzle shapes, then sanded, painted, engraved, sanded, and painted again, a repeated act of care; every step a choice made in the present to blur and to sharpen.
These are repeated translated forms from nature into pixels, and then back into artificial physical matter through the accumulated labor of human hands and machines. The viewer walks alongside the work, encountering layered time that has been shaped in an anchored space that might remind them of their own experiences, read at a future always becoming the present.
Kynevt Arkp, acrylic spray paint and colored pencil in and on laser engraved plywood, dimensions variable, 2026.
