Imagine being a kid and learning about the genius of @nas at 5. Imagine later coming into your own and having your parents buy you albums like Stillmatic and God’s Son. Fast forward 15 years and you’re chatting with him on the phone for your dream publication @billboard . It’s a 15-minute phone interview, but it’s a win nonetheless. You tell yourself, it’s not enough, saying, “I need to meet him one day in person and create that moment.” You find a teammate, but, more importantly, a brother in @jasoncajohnson along the way three years later and decide to cultivate stories post-COVID for the people to hear and see. Though you think it’s a long shot, you go after Nas and @hitboy after they secured Esco’s first-ever Grammy for King’s Disease. You bring him and Hit to a sold-out @grammymuseum for a conversation about their Award-Winning album. No one has yet interviewed them together, but you say fuck it, nothing is impossible in your world, right? But wait, there’s more. You think this is the climax to your story until you get a call to moderate a conversation with him a year later at the @tribeca film festival two days after your birthday. Mayor Adams comes up to you afterwards and congratulates you for your impressive interview. You’re literally breaking bread with Nas at dinner with your team to celebrate. Crazy thing is, the job isn’t finished though. You think even wilder. What if you could put him on a cover that he never once graced in his entire 30-year career on the 50th anniversary of hip-hop? Doesn’t sound too crazy, right?
