7:25 - Kokstad
In the summer of 2011
@menganhlabathi and I were sitting at Colombo Coffee in Umbilo when he said he was going to give this filmmaking thing a go. Since then the sliders have been all the way up.
@olwethu4thekids used to tell me about the strangeness of Kokstad. In the winter of 2012 en route to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, we made a stop there. That place was so cold, I got a headache.
Two years ago I found myself thinking about this image of a man in a motorcycle riding away from the town he was born. I kept wondering what his story was and told
@iambonganizondi about this and he said, let's make something. That's what Gideon is, the culmination of years of conversations between friends.
A big thank you to our partners at
@filminkzn who have provided development and production funding but most importantly believed in the vision. Especially Zipho and Zunaid who was not just a script editor, but a story doula who made the birth of this story possible. Izandla zidlula ikhanda.
