Aloha from Australia! Luke, Lena and I just wrapped the first stop on the World Surf League Championship Tour at Bells Beach.
I didn’t make it as far as I would have wanted in the event but there were so many little wins along the way to celebrate. We’ve settled into a nice routine on the road, found some great playgrounds, beautiful coastal walks, been cooking at home, reading books, going swimming in the pool.
I was worried about Lena being okay out of her normal environment but she is adapting well! We are really enjoying the simple stuff like finding flowers on our walks or picking shells at the beach, doing a grocery store run or stopping by the pet store to look at the fish. Things we never used to care about before, now bring us the greatest joy.
We were driving the other day and saw some cows so we pulled over and said hello to them. A few years ago, we would have just kept driving. I’m grateful for these positives distractions. The down days in between competition can be long but ‘Olena keeps the time moving and my mind off of overthinking. She has been a reminder to stay present, to soak in the magic and be grateful for all the moments.
