Iran will soon announce a new mechanism to manage maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian lawmaker said on Friday, amid heightened regional tensions and disruption to global shipping routes.
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, said Tehran had prepared a designated system for vessels transiting through the strategic waterway.
“Iran has prepared a mechanism to manage traffic through the Strait of Hormuz along a designated route that will be unveiled soon,” Azizi said, according to Reuters.
He added that only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran would benefit from the arrangement.
Azizi further said Iran would collect fees for “specialised services” provided under the proposed mechanism, though no additional operational details were disclosed.
