At sunset last night in Los Angeles, Jonathan Anderson presented his debut Cruise show for
@dior against the spectacular backdrop of the newly unveiled LACMA building.
The Hitchcock-esque premise of the show’s teaser continued, with street lamps casting noirish shadows across a catwalk parked with vintage Cadillacs. LA native #GretaLee (who brought along her parents),
@sabrinacarpenter , Al Pacino,
@sophiewildee , Celine Song (
@helloellephanta ),
@mileycyrus and #AlisonOliver all sat front row.
The collection – for the first time including menswear – was steeped in Old Hollywood glamour and Dior’s long connection with it. “It was this idea of set, reality, non-reality, dressing up in daytime, dressing up in the evening,” said Anderson backstage. Models walked in slouchy drop-waisted ‘30s gowns, feathered boas and louche pyjama-style shirts and trousers.
Marlene Dietrich was honoured with a remake of her own Dior bar jacket. Artist Ed Ruscha (
@edruschaofficial ) collaborated with Anderson on shirting, and Irish milliner
@philiptreacy created headdresses: “I’ve always been obsessed by the hat that he did for Isabella Blow,” said Anderson. The late stylist’s famous feathered head piece was recreated here to spell out the words Dior and Star.
