Doris Fisher, co-founder of
@gap , passed away at 94, leaving behind a legacy that transformed retail, philanthropy, education, and the arts.
Doris helped build an iconic company long before women were regularly recognized as business leaders. Not only did she build Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy, but she led with vision, creativity, curiosity, and conviction during a time when very few women were given space to do so. She championed the arts through one of the country’s most influential modern art collections and invested deeply in educational equity through organizations like KIPP.
Women like Doris, who quietly changed industries, opened doors for future generations and showed that business success and impact can go hand in hand. Her legacy will live in the countless women she inspired to lead, create, and build because pioneers like her showed it was possible. I’m thinking of her family and everyone whose lives she touched.
