Ya girl is front page and has her own section in the biggest English newspaper in Japan🇯🇵! Thank you to @thejapantimes and @farrahakase for this amazing piece on my @melaninunscripted film “Women of Color in Japan” featuring @ameya.mp4 , @tiffcad & @plaitwoman following their journey navigating tokyo as creatives(link in bio)! “Creativity is the root for connections and understanding them. I don’t think we understand how connected we really are until we are fully exposed to how diverse the world is.” “I want to do things people can’t imagine would be possible,” she says. “The limit isn’t the sky, it’s the starting point.” I’m excited to continue to grow in the film space and tell stories that bring identity and culture to light. The mission has always been global but now the impact is too. From Africa to Asia, our stories matter ❤️🌍 Photos of me by @mozwrites Styled by @etmonamielarose WOC Film edited by @passportkenny

詳しくはプロフィールリンクより💫 In my 3rd article for PEN, I explored a more inclusive representation for women in Japan. Link in bio💫 While there is a global call for gender equality, many Japanese media and advertisements are struggling to portray a compelling image of women, one that Japanese women can relate to. The reality of the situation shows no sign that discrimination against women will disappear, encompassing a series of derogatory remarks, treatment and slow integration of women. Within the Japanese culture, many tend not to criticize offensive behaviors so as not to make the situation more awkward. Problem is, if we overlook this, we are letting ourselves living in a society where women will always be bound by the stereotypes defined by those around and above us. From these deep-rooted problems, the way forward depends on our actions. Tb to being able to walk around outside without a care in the world ~ I’m never gonna take things like being able to meet my friends at the beach, go for a picnic in the park or dance on the streets of Tokyo at 1 am for granted again~ Even though it’s a little boring at times this extra time off has been amazing not gonna lie. Oh also I had brownies for the first time in a year... A WHOLE FREAKING YEAR AND IT WAS FIRE AF Things could be worse 🤷🏻‍♀️ stay safe x
