It's no different than spark plugs in a car or oil in your lawnmower. These gas rings on my 12.5 upper had maybe 1k rounds on them, and it blew out a gas ring.
Gas rings are a critical part of your rifle. Creating a seal, catching gas, and helping unlock the bolt during cycling. The system contains three in the event one fails. Although it is rare, one failing can cause issues, and it's a cheap part to replace.
A set of gas rings will run you a couple of bucks, but it's a necessary part to keep on hand. Like I said, these failed at an incredibly low round count, so make sure to check them often.
