My Great Grandfather owned a department store in Downtown LA before WWII. The store and their home were taken away and they were forcibly relocated to an internment camp called Manzanar in Northern California following an executive order by President Franklin Roosevelt as a response to the attack on Pearl Harbor. I never found any information about the store until yesterday, a distant relative sent us some photos that he’d discovered. The pictures are astonishing. The boy in the second to last frame is my grandfather. #horibros

I definitely didn’t have a clue that the Hori family was doing so well before the camp. What a beautiful and classy department store!
