Nollywood is at a crossroads.
It feels like the industry is slowly shifting focus from talent and storytelling to fame and quick numbers. Our legendary veterans like Nkem Owoh, Aki and Pawpaw, Kenneth Okonkwo, Pete Edochie, Chinedu Ikedieze & Osita Iheme, Olu Jacobs, Sam Dede, Ramsey Nouah, Patience Ozokwor, the late Cynthia Okereke, Mr Ibu, Sam Loco, and many others built Nollywood with pure talent, originality, and unforgettable performances.
Today, many of them are aging or less active and instead of properly grooming the next generation, it sometimes feels like young talents are overlooked while fame and social media popularity take priority.
Are we investing enough in real talent?
Are we preparing strong replacements for our legends?
Or are we chasing views over value?
In years to come, when these icons are no longer on our screens, will Nollywood still command the same respect and love?
This is not hate ,it’s a genuine concern from someone who loves the industry and believes we can do better.
What do you think?
