Stéphane Bernaudeau Les Onglés 2022
Thanks to Nataly and Balazs for the fantastic gastronomic experience at 55 Pasos. Every time we go, we truly feel at home.🫶
When we saw the wine list, we couldn’t resist opening this bottle. Probably not the ideal moment to drink it this young, but it’s not every day you come across this kind of opportunity, and we were really curious to try a Bernaudeau.
This is a serious Chenin Blanc from Anjou in the Loire Valley, grown on schist soils.
On the nose, very restrained at first. With time, some shy notes started to appear, yellow apple, pear and a light waxy touch.
On the palate, a high-acidity entry immediately makes you salivate, setting the tone. Then yellow apple and pear come through, with a clear lees influence bringing brioche and a gentle yeasty touch. An elegant body coats the palate, leading into a long, persistent and very saline finish.
Delicate, subtle and elegant. I really enjoyed it, though I might have expected just a touch more given the hype. It felt a bit shy, and probably needs more time in bottle to fully express itself.
