It’s been a year since the fires - a year of a lot of things, and especially a year of attaching the feeling of “home” to a rotating door of strange new objects and windows. Which is quite hard to do!
I can say a year later that the world in front of me is *just starting* to feel like home - a feeling that really only comes with time. And with cooking, spilling, laughing, drinking, scrubbing, eating, and crying in the same place over and over again. I still long for my childhood photos, my Mom’s teapots, and the lime tree that raised me - I’ll remain white-knuckled onto the crispness of those memories for as long as I possibly can.
Here are some photos of the rubble, and some snapshots of the new memories and things that are chipping away at the gap. Even if they’re temporary, maybe everything is <3
More than anything, to my incredibly resilient and awesome family who has weathered this storm like champs, I love you so much. Home soon.
