Loll…If we are being sincere, back in the days when AMVCA started, Infact scratch that, when Nigerian Fashion was at its early phase, we were used to seeing the norms, Nigerian celebrities would rather patronize designers outside of the space because Nigerian fashion designers were used to playing safe. But when the likes of Tianna and Veekee, Ejiro, Tubo, Medlin etc started taking the space, we saw different version of revolution from these designers, we knew Veekee with amazing designs most especially corsets and the way her snatching were so neats, Medlin we knew with power suites and sharp designs but for Tianna we saw use the extra ordinary things and most times random stuff to make clothes, she used things like pins, newspapers, nylons, plastics etc.. To be fair, bold fashion like that was something we weren’t used to as a people hence the backlashes at the time, but I guess she was consistent and daring enough to find her community and some people saw the vision with her, few years down the line, we’ve and are still seeing designers follow suite, just recently Veekee used sponges to make a dress, some other designers have followed suits, we saw Nana’s outfits and this is what Tianna was trying to say when she said she set the pace for innovative fashion like this to evolve and if we are being fair, yes she did! Now we can see designs think out of the box to want to use cartons, temples etc to make clothes.
I saw a comment recently where someone said, Veekee used sponges but it wasn’t obvious and if she hadn’t told us we wouldn’t know but if Tianna does same it’s gonna be obvious that she used sponge Loll, of course the person is correct but this is what I’ll say, I don’t think Nigeria, Africa as a people, we are used to bold fashion like this but I can say that in years to come, we will be. Tinanna’s designs from the get go, is type that makes you stop, turn maybe not say Awwww or oh my Gosh first, but it would definitely leave a memory afterwards so yeah, it’s her style and thinking outside the box should ALWAYS be encouraged❤️
