Remembrance of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Osita Osadebe
Today marks the remembrance of the passing of Osadebe and Zik. Osadebe passed away in 2007, while Zik died in 1996. Zik was a native of Onitsha and also Nigeria’s first President. He founded Nigeria’s first indigenous university, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Osadebe, on the other hand, elevated Highlife music to greatness in Igbo land. Some of his popular songs include “Osondi Owendi,” “Rioba Chukwu,” and “Ogazi Amaka.” His music was rooted in peace and love.
These were great Igbo icons whose legacies make the Igbo people proud, and they remain role models for the younger generation to emulate.
May their souls continue to rest in peace.
Amen.
