💜 Amos Rex coats are designed by the interdisciplinary artistic duo
@ensaemble , consisting of designers Alisa Närvänen and Elina Peltonen.
A strong drive towards sustainability has been taken into account in the design and production of the workwear with the help of garment production and sourcing studio Post-mode. The inspiration for the Amos Rex coat comes from vintage workwear, specifically different forms of artists’ coats from early and mid-century painters and sculptors. Närvänen’s own experience as a museum guide at Amos Rex has also had a strong influence to the design.
🥼 These coats were made of cotton that softened in wear and demonstrated signs of life and art-making personally. In ensæmble’s interpretation the coat has a kimono-like silhouette, which is straight and relaxed and can be modified with a detachable belt. It has three pockets and a detachable pocket bag for heavier objects. As in the architecture of the museum tradition fuses with futurism, so does the archetypical artist coat sharpen through a refined material choice, color and metallic sleeve embroidery.
ensæmble was established in 2011 in Helsinki, Finland. While they call Helsinki home, ensæmble has Finnish, Belgian and Russian roots. Next to commercial work ensæmble embraces an artistic practice built on performance, image and sculpture.
